We have been working with Mitchell for several months now to help build an informed ecological and sustainable imperative into both our design process and the actual Masterplan for a new campus on 40 acres in Deming, NM. Deming is located in the high Chihuahuan desert plains at the foot of the Gila Mountains and 30 miles from the border with Mexico. The project includes the design of the first building - a 20,000 sf Gateway building comprised of a mini campus in one building. At every stage Mitchell has been an amazing bridge between academia and a very large and specialized international A/E design team. In addition to moderating broad brainstorming conversations with our team and Western New Mexico University stakeholders, his writing captures moments and concepts in the process that help keep the team motivated and focused on pursuit of an environmentally and culturally aware building. His enthusiasm and commitment to exploring how the health and well being of the natural world is directly related to the impact and functioning of higher education has become central to our pursuit. Mitchell is a key component of our team, helping shape project and process. I look forward to working with him on many projects to come.
